Moving Tips

Some things to think about as you prepare to move:

• Planning and accomplishing a move is always stressful. Let us help by doing all or some of the work for you! As a full service moving company we will do as much or as little work as you need. From packing your belongings to reassembly of furniture at your new home. You choose the services you need.
• When you are ready to reserve a date keep in mind that the first and last weeks of the month are extra-busy.
• Make sure that you book your desired moving dates early, don’t wait until the last minute. It is wise to give us from four to six weeks notice, if possible. The more lead-time you can give, the more likely we will be able to meet your preferred delivery schedule.
• Specify the exact date you want to move when making your reservation. If anything has changed since your estimate, make sure you let us know. An AllCare agent may need to make adjustments to your current estimate.
• If you don’t have an estimate please call to determine if one is necessary. If so, we can schedule one so that the AllCare agent can visually survey your household and prepare a quote.
• Tour your house before our agent arrives. Check from attic to basement, and determine what will be moved and what will be discarded. Show your AllCare agent everything you will be moving.  Also make sure to tell your agent anything about your new home that may affect your move.
• AllCare also provides packing services and materials so you can relax. We will do just the kitchen or the whole house; it’s up to you! If you plan to do the packing yourself, start collecting containers and packing materials. Plan ahead and have all packing complete by moving day

Things to remember:

• Dispose of all flammables such as cleaning fluids, aerosol cans, fireworks and matches.
• Drain the fuel from your power mower and other machinery.
• Discard partly used containers of any substance that may leak.
• Empty the water from your steam iron.
• Don’t wax or oil wood furniture before moving, some products may soften the wood, making it vulnerable to imprinting from furniture pads.
• Obtain a written appraisal of antique items to verify their value.
• Unplug all electronic  equipment such as TV sets, computers, stereos, etc., 24 hours in advance of a move. Moving a TV and other electronics with retained heat could cause internal damage.
• Teach your children your new address and phone number right away.
• Remember to give us your correct reach numbers so that we can stay in touch.

How much should you tip?

• Tips differ depending on the size and difficulty of the move as well as the efforts put forth by the movers. 
• An honest day’s job should not go unnoticed.
• The average tip for local moves is 7-12% of the total bill.  The average tip for long distance moves is $3-5 per hour based on the labor.
• It is best that you compensate each mover separately to acknowledge the hard work by everyone involved in the relocation.
